I WOULD BE GREATFUL TO NBC IF THEY COULD HELP ME BUY DVD,S OF MICHEAL SWIM FOR ALL HIS GOLD MEDAL RACES OR ARE THERE SOME OF HIS TRAINING VIDEOS AVAILABLE FOR SALE.I REQUIRE THIS AS MY DAUGHTER IS TRIANING FOR SWIMMING AND PHELPS IS HER IDOL.

Jon, how can you say Tiger is more athletic. If you swim than you know how much Michael trains. His body is probably in the best shape in the world. To get in that shape he not only swims but he does tons of dryland as well. I'm a golfer as well but anybody of any athletic shape can golf. I've seen obese out playing golf who probably don't do as much exercise as leaving the golf cart to the ball.

Michael Phelps is the best Athlete of our time.

Not even close! Golf is more a skill than a sport. Phelps truly may be the greatest American athelete of all time

I guess the question is: who is the most dominant in their chosen field over a certain period of time.

Right now it's Phelps over everybody. You can be in 8 events, and if it wasn't for his shell-shocked teammate he'd have won 8. Instead he won 7, set 5 WR... it's insane.

Tiger's run in the majors matches that. Tiger has had some years of TOTAL dominance.

Lifetime? I'd say Tiger, for now. He actually wasn't so good for a few years, by his standards. Phelps winning 7 or 8 metals in the olympics would seal the deal though, for me.

Basically we're talking about two men who are the best at their games, ever. We could be adding Federer to this list soon.

    Barry Sanders, anyone??

Tiger has a slight edge over Phelps. As a swimmer and a golfer I know how hard each sport is. It is much harder to consistently win a golf tournament then it is to win in swimming. Swimming is possibly the hardest sport there is physically, but as for those who are comparing their athletic ability, Tiger is a lot more athletic then Micheal Phelps. From what I hear, Phelps is pretty clumsy out of the pool. You don't have to be a good athlete to swim or play golf well. I know some very good swimmers who are not athletic at all. Golf is the hardest sport to dominate, and tiger has dominated it like no one before him. A better comparison would be Phelps and Lance Armstrong.

There is no competion Michael Phelps is sooooooooooo going to win. They don't call Michael superman for nothing.

There is no contest. Phelps is by far the better athlete then Woods. Not that Woods is not great but if you concider the physcial stamina it takes to swim there is no contest.

In one week Phelps broke 3 world records. People don't know how hard swimming is. Both Swimming and Golf take skill but you have to be in shape to swim which, when it comes down to it, defines an athlete.

Phelps deserves the credit that is due to him.

Swimming is the greatest sport ever, and Micheal Phelps is it's greatest ambassador.

Since Michael has exploded onto the foreground, the entire world is getting faster with him because the bar is being raised. The training that these guys do is unbelievable, and I would pay for a subscription channel just to watch that before I would pay for NFL network anyday.

It is embarrasing that Swimming does not get better coverage on TV in the states. I can only hope that Michael's presence on the world scene changes all of that. It is unfortunate that people have a hard time relating to our sport because most of them can't swim or don't know the racing strokes. Anyone can run, jump, throw and catch... that just makes all those silly games more marketable!

Go Michael! Go Aaron! Go Ryan! Go Natalie! Go Klete! You guys rock!

He is the greatest athlele not just the best. Swimming here in america is so underrated and so is Micheal Phelps. If they broadcast swimming just like any major sport you'll see who is the greatest athlete. Swimming is a sport not just a amazing olympic sport give a huge coverage he is a amazing hardworking athlete just like Tiger Woods but better.

    Phelps vs. Woods argument...
Completely ignored in your comparision is the lack of oxygen available, the definition of athlete and the discussion of golf as a sport. Golf is a past time requiring amazing skill...not the physical strenght and stamina of swimming. This is an argument going on in many a household including ours... There is no comparison between Golf and Swimming. By definition, Michael Phelps is by far the better "athlete". (Let's face it, Tiger doesn't even walk and carry his bag very far...)
